These Turkey Sloppy Joes are a delicious and easy weeknight meal. Ground turkey is cooked in a savory, slightly sweet sauce and served on toasted buns.

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 6 hamburger buns, split and toasted

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add ground turkey and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned. Drain any excess fat.
  2. Stir in onion, green bell pepper, and garlic. Cook until vegetables are softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add tomato sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.
  4. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened.
  5. Spoon the turkey mixture onto toasted hamburger buns and serve immediately.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the sauce.
  • You can prepare the sloppy joe mixture ahead of time and reheat it when ready to serve.
