Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup treacle
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm milk, treacle, melted butter, and beaten egg.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, instant yeast, and salt.
  3. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 5-7 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf.
  7. Place the loaf in a greased 9×5 inch loaf pan. Cover and let rise again for 30-45 minutes, or until nearly doubled.
  8. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  9. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  10. Let cool on a wire rack before slicing.

  • For a richer color, brush the top with a little milk before baking.
