Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup raisins
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a baking sheet.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the raisins.
- Gradually add the buttermilk, mixing until a soft dough forms. Do not overmix.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead a few times. Shape into a round loaf, about 1 inch thick.

- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let cool slightly on a wire rack before slicing and serving.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, you can add a pinch of nutmeg or cinnamon to the dry ingredients.
- Serve warm with butter, jam, or clotted cream.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
