A classic Italian-American dish with layers of pasta, rich tomato sauce, and gooey cheese baked to perfection.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ziti pasta
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook ziti according to package directions until al dente. Drain.
  3. In a bowl, mix ricotta, 1 cup mozzarella, Parmesan, egg, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper.
  4. Spread 1/2 cup marinara sauce in the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  5. Layer half the cooked ziti over the sauce.
  6. Spread the ricotta mixture evenly over the ziti.
  7. Top with remaining ziti and cover with remaining marinara sauce.
  8. Sprinkle remaining 1 cup mozzarella on top.
  9. Bake uncovered for 25-30 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  10. Let stand 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • You can substitute cottage cheese for ricotta.
  • Add cooked ground meat or sausage for extra protein.
  • Leftovers keep well in the fridge for up to 4 days.
