- 1 9-inch pie crust, unbaked
- 1 cup molasses
- 1 1/2 cups boiling water
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a medium bowl, combine the molasses, boiling water, and baking soda. Mix well and set aside.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, cinnamon, cloves, and ginger.
- Add the melted butter to the flour mixture and mix until crumbly.
- Pour the molasses mixture into the unbaked pie crust.
- Sprinkle the crumb topping evenly over the molasses mixture.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the filling is set and the topping is golden brown.
- Let cool completely before serving.
Notes
- For a softer pie, reduce the baking time slightly.
- Serve warm or at room temperature.
- This pie pairs well with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
