Ingredients
Scale
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 1 pound thinly sliced beef (such as ribeye or sirloin)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 6 slices provolone cheese
- 6 hoagie rolls, split and lightly toasted
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add sliced onion and cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes. Remove onion from skillet and set aside.
- Increase heat to medium-high. Add thinly sliced beef to the skillet.
- Season beef with salt and pepper. Cook, stirring occasionally, until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
- Return the cooked onions to the skillet with the beef. Mix well.
- Divide the beef mixture into 6 portions in the skillet. Top each portion with a slice of provolone cheese.
- Cover the skillet and cook until the cheese is melted, about 1-2 minutes.
- Spoon the cheesy beef mixture into the toasted hoagie rolls.
- Serve immediately.
Notes
- For extra flavor, you can add bell peppers or mushrooms to the skillet with the onions.
- If you prefer, you can use Cheez Whiz instead of provolone cheese for a more classic Philly cheesesteak experience.
- To toast the hoagie rolls, you can lightly butter them and place them in a hot skillet or under a broiler for a minute or two.
