These Philly Cheesesteak Sandwiches feature thinly sliced beef and melted cheese on a toasted bun.

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 pound thinly sliced beef (such as ribeye or sirloin)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 6 slices provolone cheese
  • 6 hoagie rolls, split and lightly toasted

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add sliced onion and cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes. Remove onion from skillet and set aside.
  3. Increase heat to medium-high. Add thinly sliced beef to the skillet.
  4. Season beef with salt and pepper. Cook, stirring occasionally, until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Return the cooked onions to the skillet with the beef. Mix well.
  6. Divide the beef mixture into 6 portions in the skillet. Top each portion with a slice of provolone cheese.
  7. Cover the skillet and cook until the cheese is melted, about 1-2 minutes.
  8. Spoon the cheesy beef mixture into the toasted hoagie rolls.
  9. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can add bell peppers or mushrooms to the skillet with the onions.
  • If you prefer, you can use Cheez Whiz instead of provolone cheese for a more classic Philly cheesesteak experience.
  • To toast the hoagie rolls, you can lightly butter them and place them in a hot skillet or under a broiler for a minute or two.
