Ingredients

- 1 1/2 cups warm water
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- 1/3 cup baking soda
- 1 large egg, beaten
- Coarse salt for topping
Instructions
- Mix warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
- Add flour, salt, and melted butter. Knead until smooth.
- Let dough rise for 1 hour or until doubled.
- Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C).
- Divide dough into small pieces and roll into balls.
- Boil water and baking soda. Drop dough balls in for 30 seconds.
- Place on baking sheet, brush with beaten egg, and sprinkle with coarse salt.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes until golden brown.
Notes
- Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
- Serve with cheese sauce or mustard.
- Dough can be made ahead and refrigerated overnight.
