Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
  2. Shape the mixture into 4 evenly sized patties.
  3. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat and cook the patties for 4-5 minutes per side. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, melt butter and add sliced onions. Cook until caramelized (about 10 minutes).
  5. Sprinkle flour over the onions and stir to combine.
  6. Slowly add beef broth, stirring constantly until the gravy thickens.
  7. Return the patties to the skillet, spooning gravy over them. Simmer for 5 minutes.

Notes

  • Use fresh ground beef for the best texture.
  • Don’t overwork the meat when forming patties to keep them tender.
  • For a thicker gravy, add a cornstarch slurry (1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 1 tbsp water).
