A classic comfort food dish featuring tenderized steak coated in seasoned flour, fried to perfection, and smothered in rich, creamy gravy.

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cube steaks (about 1/2 inch thick)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. In a shallow dish, mix flour, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika.
  2. In another dish, whisk together milk and egg.
  3. Dredge each steak in the flour mixture, then dip in the milk mixture, and coat again in flour.
  4. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  5. Fry steaks for 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown. Remove and set aside.
  6. Reduce heat to medium. Add 2 tablespoons of leftover flour mixture to the skillet.
  7. Whisk in beef broth and heavy cream, scraping up browned bits.
  8. Simmer for 5 minutes until gravy thickens.
  9. Return steaks to the skillet, spoon gravy over them, and serve hot.

Notes

  • Use a meat mallet to tenderize steaks if needed.
  • Adjust seasoning to taste.
  • For a thicker gravy, simmer longer or add a bit more flour.
