Ingredients

  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 tbsp minced ginger
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 green onion, sliced (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix cornstarch, flour, and beaten egg to form a batter.
  2. Coat chicken pieces in the batter and fry in hot oil until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
  3. In a separate pan, heat 1 tbsp oil and sauté garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes for 30 seconds.
  4. Add soy sauce, rice vinegar, brown sugar, honey, and water. Simmer until the sauce thickens.
  5. Toss fried chicken in the sauce until evenly coated.
  6. Garnish with sliced green onions and serve hot.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, double-fry the chicken.
  • Adjust red pepper flakes for preferred spice level.
  • Serve with steamed rice or noodles.
