Ingredients

  • 1 loaf French bread, cut into cubes
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and place bread cubes in it.
  2. In a bowl, whisk eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. Pour mixture over bread cubes, pressing bread down to soak.
  4. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Mix brown sugar and melted butter, then drizzle over the casserole.
  7. Bake for 45-50 minutes until golden and set.
  8. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Use stale bread for better texture.
  • Customize with nuts or dried fruit if desired.
  • Reheat leftovers in the oven for best results.
