Ingredients
Scale
- 1 recipe double pie crust
- 6 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons butter, cut into small pieces
- 1/2 cup caramel sauce
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out half the pie crust and fit into a 9-inch pie plate.
- In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Toss to coat evenly.
- Pour apple mixture into the pie crust. Dot with butter pieces.
- Roll out the remaining pie crust. Place over the apple filling. Crimp edges to seal. Cut several slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
- Bake for 15 minutes at 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
- Reduce oven temperature to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) and bake for an additional 35 to 45 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
- Remove from oven and let cool slightly.
- Warm the caramel sauce and drizzle generously over the pie before serving.
Notes
- Granny Smith apples work well for baking as they hold their shape and provide a tart contrast to the sweet caramel.
- For a richer flavor, use homemade caramel sauce.
- Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
