- 2 cups dried black beans
- 6 cups water
- 1 onion, diced
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 jalapeño, chopped
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp oregano
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Rinse black beans and soak overnight in water.
- Drain beans and add fresh water to a pot.
- Sauté onion, garlic, and jalapeño in oil until soft.
- Add beans, spices, and bay leaves to the pot.
- Simmer covered for 1.5–2 hours until tender.
- Season with salt before serving.

- Soaking beans reduces cooking time.
- Adjust spice levels to your preference.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
