Ingredients

  • Salted Caramel Sauce: 140g granulated sugar, 1 ½ tbsp water, 40g butter, 150g heavy cream, pinch of salt
  • Vanilla Cake Layers: 340g all-purpose flour, 2 tbsp cornstarch, ¾ tsp baking powder, ¾ tsp baking soda, ¾ tsp salt, 180g butter, 300g granulated sugar, 4 large eggs, 240g sour cream, 60g vegetable oil, 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • Caramel Buttercream: 400g butter, 660g powdered sugar, 2 tsp vanilla extract, 2-3 tbsp caramel

Instructions

  1. Salted Caramel: Melt sugar and water in a saucepan until golden brown. Stir in butter, then gradually add heavy cream. Add salt and let cool.
  2. Vanilla Cake Layers: Preheat oven to 170°C/340°F. Sift dry ingredients. Cream butter and sugar, then add eggs. Alternate adding dry ingredients with sour cream, oil, and vanilla. Bake for 19-22 minutes.
  3. Caramel Buttercream: Whip butter, then gradually add powdered sugar, vanilla, and caramel. Mix until smooth.
  4. Assembling: Layer cake with buttercream and caramel. Chill before final frosting and caramel drizzle.
