Instructions

  1. Mix flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
  2. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Gradually add warm water to form a soft dough.
  4. Knead dough lightly on a floured surface for 2 minutes.
  5. Roll out dough to 1/4-inch thickness and cut into squares or triangles.
  6. Heat oil to 375Β°F and fry sopaipillas until puffed and golden, about 1-2 minutes per side.
  7. Drain on paper towels and serve warm with honey or powdered sugar.
